Side-by-Side Tours F.A.Q.

What is a side-by-side tour?

Experience a fun guided tour of the beautiful, wooded trails north of downtown Harbor Springs all the way to the shores of Lake Michigan in Cross Village. Your guided tour adventure will be about 5 hours long. In Munising, experience the beauties of the Hiawatha National Forest on a guided tour that will last approximately 2 hours. Reservations are highly recommended. Restrictions apply.

Does County Wide Adventures only offer guided side-by-side tours?

No, our adventures are guided and unguided. The guided tours in Harbor Springs allows everyone to safely experience the thrill of driving these amazing off-road machines while enjoying the scenery. In Gaylord we offer the same high quality RZR XP 1000 machines, only un-guided to experience the beauties of the Northern Lower Peninsula.

Where does the tour start?

All tours start and end at County Wide Adventures which is located in Harbor Springs, Gaylord and Munising MI. Please plan to arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time to check-in.

How old do I have to be to participate?

Renters must be at least 21 years of age and to be a driver you MUST be 18 and have a valid driver’s license. Passengers must be at least 50″ tall and be able to hold on to the passenger grab bar and be able to keep their feet flat on the floor of the vehicle with their back fully against the back seat rest. Anyone under 18 years of age must have parental consent to participate. Children requiring a car seat or booster seat are not permitted to ride.

Are there any height/weight restrictions?

All participants must be able to secure their seat belt properly.

What types of vehicles are used for the adventure?

We are a Polaris outfitter that uses the newest side-by-side vehicles on the market. Our current fleet consists of 2021/2022 RZR 1000 4-Seater and 2021 Trail S 1000. All vehicles are equipped with power steering. The RZR is a sporty ride and perfect for the terrain on your tour!

Is there any training about the vehicles before the adventure starts?

Yes, all participants will go through a brief vehicle and safety orientation. Your guide will familiarize you with the RZR’s on how to drive in off-road terrain. Total training time is less than 15 minutes.

What should I wear?

You should dress according to the weather conditions. We ride rain or shine, however, we will determine the safety of all tours and reserve the right to alter tours based on weather and terrain conditions. Keep in mind that the off-road vehicles have partial windshields so it may feel cooler than the actual temperature. Be aware that you will experience dust (and sometimes mud) on the tour so plan accordingly. Helmets and goggles are included and must be worn while vehicles are in motion. Closed-toe shoes (sneakers) are mandatory. Please no flip-flops, sandals, or high heels.

Am I responsible if there is damage to the vehicle?

Yes. We offer two Damage Waiver options that limit your out-of-pocket expenses should you damage the vehicle during your ride. The accidental damage waiver rental protection options are as follows:

  • Minimum Protection: For no additional cost in Harbor Springs/Gaylord, the renter is responsible for the first $1,000 per vehicle of any damages (including parts, labor, loss of use). In Munising for $30 renter is responsible for the first $3,000 in Damages. All additional damage charges will be waived.
  • Maximum Protection: For $15 per side by side rented in Harbor Springs and Gaylord, the renter is responsible for the first $500 of any damages to the vehicle (including parts, labor, loss of use). In Munising for $50 the renter is responsible for the first $1500 in damages. All additional damage charges will be waived.

Are there restrooms available during the tour?

While there are restrooms available during the tour, please note that some are “out-house” style and do not offer all the amenities of a traditional public restroom.

Can we bring alcohol on the tour?

All Michigan state DUI laws apply to off-highway vehicle operators so we do not permit any alcohol consumption before or during the tour.

Can the tour accommodate a group?

Yes, the adventure tour is perfect for families, friends, corporate groups, and more! We can accommodate groups as large as 32 people in both Harbor Springs and Munising. All participants must meet the requirements as stated above.

What is your cancellation/change policy?

All cancellations will be charged a $50 cancellation fee per vehicle booked. County Wide Adventures will issue a full refund minus the cancellation fee if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before the reservation start time. We will not issue refunds for cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice from the reservation start time.

We offer a one-time courtesy reservation rescheduling if the change to the reservation is made at least 72 hours before the reservation start time. Rescheduling is based on vehicle availability, and the new reservation must take place during the current riding season.

Customers will receive a full refund or credit in case of OPERATOR CANCELLATIONS due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Please call 231-373-2243 (Gaylord/Harbor Springs) and 906-387-7400 (Munising) to cancel your reservation. Cancellations cannot be made online. No-shows will be charged the full price.

Do I have to sign any waivers before participation?

Yes. Upon booking a tour, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link to our waiver that can be completed online. You may also complete the waiver upon your arrival at County Wide Adventures on the day of your tour.

Do I have to return my side-by-side with a full tank of gas?

For the guided tours gas is included in the tour price. For the self-guided tours, anything not returned full in either location is $6.50 a gallon.

Are dogs allowed on tours?

No, dogs are not allowed on tours.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not allowed.

Snowmobile Rentals F.A.Q.

(Available Mid-December through Mid-March)

Do you offer guided snowmobile tours?

No, at this time County Wide Adventures does not offer guided snowmobile tours.

What if there isn’t enough snow during my rental period?

County Wide Adventures reserves the right to cancel your reservation if we decide that the trail conditions are not good enough for riding due to the lack of snow. We try to let our customers know as soon as possible if this happens.

Will I be charged for my rental if there isn’t enough snow? What’s your cancellation policy?

Customers will receive a full refund or credit if County Wide Adventures cancels due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. If you cancel your reservation, we will issue a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee if cancellation is made at least 72 hours prior to the reservation start time. We will not issue refunds for cancellations made with less than 72 hours notice from the reservation start time. Please call 231-373-2243 (Harbor Springs/Gaylord)  to cancel your reservation. Cancellations cannot be made online. No-shows will be charged the full price.

If we want or need to return the sleds before our rental period is over, can we get a refund or credit?

While you certainly can return early for whatever reason, County Wide Adventures does not offer any refunds or credit for returning before your reserved rental period is over. If you return past the end of your rental period, you will be charged a late fee of $90 per hour per sled.

Am I responsible if there is damage to the vehicle?

  • Minimum Protection: For no additional cost in Harbor Springs/Gaylord, the renter is responsible for the first $1,000 per vehicle of any damages (including parts, labor, loss of use). In Munising for $30 renter is responsible for the first $3,000 in Damages. All additional damage charges will be waived.
  • Maximum Protection: For $15 per snowmobile rented in Harbor Springs and Gaylord, the renter is responsible for the first $500 of any damages to the vehicle (including parts, labor, loss of use). In Munising for $50 the renter is responsible for the first $1500 in damages. All additional damage charges will be waived.

IMPORTANT: On the day of your tour, County Wide Adventures will place a hold on your credit card for the amount (Harbor Springs/Gaylord $500 or $1000) (Munising $1500/$3000) based on the protection option you chose when you booked your rental. The full amount of the damage waiver MUST be available to rent the vehicle. NO EXCEPTIONS. The hold on your credit card will be released within 48 hours once your vehicle is checked in damage-free.

The damage waiver protection is used to cover loss, damages, and expenses associated with the operation of the vehicle. It is our policy to charge the credit card in full once the damage has been observed.

What kind of snowmobiles does County Wide Adventures rent?

County Wide Adventures is a partner in the Polaris Adventures program that uses the newest vehicles on the market. Our rental fleet consists of 2021/2022 Indy VR1 snowmobiles.

How do we get to the trail?

County Wide Adventures is perfectly situated near the Harbor Springs trail system. We have plenty of parking for your vehicle, and you can ride right out of our parking lot onto the trail. The Gaylord and Munising locations are also on the trail and you can ride out from the parking lot.

Does County Wide Adventures rent gear?

At this time, the only gear we rent are helmets, which are included in the rental fee: (1) helmet with a single-person rental and (2) helmets with a two-person rental. We do have jackets, bibs, goggles, gloves, and headgear available for purchase as well.

Do I have to return the snowmobile with a full tank of gas?

At all locations, you are responsible for refilling the machines full of fuel. Anything not returned full in any location is $6.50 a gallon.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not allowed.
